We went down for a whirlwind trip of family events. I was so glad we were able to be there with them. First, my niece-in-law Ashley was baptized. This was HUGE!!!! When my nephew Danny first brought Ash into the family, she really was not interested in the church. They've been through some pretty nasty stuff (see April's Visiting Danny post) and it was just awesome to see her embrace the Gospel. Finally. There were nearly 100 people in attendance at her baptism, so we all met in the chapel. My sister sang a beautiful song and my other sister and her husband (Ashley's in-laws) spoke. My brother-in-law mentioned the ancestors that were supporting Ashley, and who would be there for her. Ashley is a descendant of Benjamin F. Johnson, who was an early pioneer for the Mormon church and
he's Jason's great great Grandfather. Cool huh? I know that from the other side, her heritage played a role in her conversion. We were so happy for her and her decision. Her family wasn't supportive of it, but she stuck it out and chose the right! Love you Ashley!

Jason's older brother Randon was called to be the Bishop of his ward that same weekend. Obnoxious me couldn't help but laugh and smile as the Stake President addressed him as "Bishop Johnson." I don't think that this was a big shocker to anyone that knows Randon. He's been a great servant for the Lord, has a pure heart, and is honest and dedicated. When we first heard the news my instant thought was, "Ooooohh! Poor Michelle." They have a sort of high needs/low leadership kind of ward, so their work will be hard and intense. They'll be blessed because of it and I know they have the type of faith that will carry them through the next few years.
They had a yummy dinner at their house, prior to Randon's setting apart. Jason's mother and sisters were there and I always get a kick out of watching them squirm in any type of social situation!
I've never attended a Bishop's setting apart before. As I sat there listening to Pres. Lawlor speak, I looked around the room holding a very fussy Wyatt and thought how much I love our religion. Here is Randon and his family receiving an extremely distinguished calling for the church. There is no elaborate pomp and circumstance, no fancy decor, ceremonial praises or rituals. Sure, there's the stake big wigs, but what filled the room was simply family and friends. And I guess what touched me was the simplicity of it all. The Lord isn't about the show or the recognition. We are mere followers of Jesus Christ trying to accomplish the same goals; happiness and eternal families. I would like to close this post with the chorus line from High School Musical. WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! Mushy enough for you Cin?
