Visiting Danny

I was able to go visit my nephew Danny at the hospital twice last weekend. He's been at St. Joseph's Hospital for a month now, after an insane roller coaster ride of brain surgery and a close-to-death infection. He had to have his leg "carved" in 6 areas that had become infected. He wasn't in a lot of pain until they did his first skin graft. This was to cover up the holes they had to make in his leg. I cannot imagine the pain of having a giant section of my giant thigh being scraped off! Ouch! It was fun to watch how his body would almost immediately relax and turn jello like after his Dilaudid was injected into him! He's doing so much better now and has a great attitude. Danny begins rehabilitation this week.

His wife Ashley has been really strong through this entire ordeal that started last fall when Danny was diagnosed with cushings disease. She's only 20 and he's 22. They have a little girl that's almost 2. Talk about being forced to grow up! I wouldn't wish this trial on anyone, and I admire that they both have really stepped up to the plate. I kept telling Ashley that if I were in her shoes, I would be freaking out on a daily basis!

OK Amy I thought I was the only Freek that took pictures of my wounds and shared with others and Dilaudid is my friend too. I Love that stuff. I hope all goes well with him. You are stronger that you think.

Yes it is Karl. I think gross medical stuff is quite fascinating! I'm sure you and Holly could be keynote speakers at the next "Gross Medical Stuff Convention"!!! :)
