My nephew is having his brain surgery today. A lot of people have been praying for him and his wife. The ideal outcome would be successful removal of the tumor, with no damage to his pituitary gland or other nerves. The surgery will be done by going thru the face, so Danny has a risk of losing his sense of smell. The Lord's watching over them and I know he'll be protected.
This got me thinking......if I knew I was going to lose my sense of smell, what would I want to smell one last time? Thoughts of homemade bread and cinnamon rolls, fresh out of the oven, came to mind. Walking into the house right after church when a delicious roast has been in the crock pot. My flowerbed after a summer rain. Smelling the forest after being cooped up in a stuffy car, for the long drive to get there. Clean and fluffy laundry, right out of the dryer. A little baby. These were things that I thought of, but I decided to ask the kids what their last smell would be. Emily said "The sun!", Caleb said "Mom's yummy candles!", and Brooklyn said "I would want to smell my cat's fur!" You should have seen Jason's face!
